You’ve heard the saying, Summer Bodies are made in Winter! This slogan is usually paired with a very attractive fitness model running through the snow. Unfortunately in reality, while our MINDS knows that winter is a time to train, our hormones, and lifestyles are saying the opposite. Stay inside your cave, hibernate and catch up on Game of Thrones!

HOWEVER I know that many of you set resolutions earlier this year, that THIS would be the year you crush your health and fitness goals. So this blog post is for people who want to hack their physiology, and get after their goals in Winter. It’s a little bit harder in winter, but NOT that much harder! Here are my top favorite tips and you know what, if you still want to watch netflix you can! Just make sure you earn it first.

Shall we begin?

  • Vitamin D3
Feeling tired, sad, or maybe just getting sick all the time – it may be an idea to start including a little bit of Vitamin D in your life. Vitamin D plays a critical role in many body functions, including inflammation, bone mineralization, the immune system and insulin resistance.

Hack: Supplement with 1000 IU for every 10kg of bodyweight. We also recommend you take a 10 minute walk in the morning or at lunchtime when the sun is at it’s brightest!
  • Movement / Exercise / Play
We know, the last thing many of you want to do in winter is get moving! Especially after a long day at work – but when YOU do, your bodies releases ‘feel-good’ endorphins that combat the feeling of the Winter Blues.  Understand that there are many types of movement, and you should try at move at least ONCE a day. If you find it hard to get the motivation to go the gym, then book it at the start of the week, and find a friend to keep you accountable!

Hack: Make a commitment to move EVERYDAY – whether it’s playing in the park with your kids, or a brisk walk after lunch! You’ll feel better for it!

  • Wear some gloves
Have you ever thought about what you REALLY hate about training in the cold? For many, it’s usually feeling the cold in your hands / fingers. This happens because our bodies draw the heat/blood from the extremities and into the core.

Hack: If you hate training in the cold, but want to achieve this years resolutions – get yourself an awesome pair of gloves, it will make the WORLD of difference!

Training in winter is hard(er). Our bodies are using obsolete strategies for survival however instead of stopping us from dying, it’s just stopping many of us from achieving our goals.  Try these quick little tips, and lets get after those 2017 Goals!
